We’ve tortured you enough. About two weeks ago, we leaked the news you that the project you’ve known as Open Air is getting a new name. But whether we’d be called Albino Squirrel or Cabin Wire, Mediapparatus or Media Spork– we let that question linger.
Today is the day when we put all the Foxoggle rumors to rest. Open Air…is now Rewire. It’s a thing!
I won’t bore you with the details of the renaming rollercoaster (though I will allude to many nights in which members of the team woke up with start– determined that they had the answer: Digital Circus! Everywire! They were each perfect…until they weren’t). Instead I’ll share why we’re so excited to have found Rewire.
Used literally, “rewire” of course means to change or repair. Like when you take that broken but charming old lamp in your basement, and retrofit it for today’s electrical– so it can illuminate your living room anew. But we’re going beyond home decor– our vision is to rewire public media’s relationship to the world, and your relationship with public media.
Rewire is about more than just how our audience plugs in– it’s about connecting with our audience in new ways– through digital content, through collaborative approaches to storytelling, through interactive events, fresh takes on classic and new programming and much more.
A year ago, we conceived of this project as a way of taking public media outside the box, and bringing it to life in new ways. With the launch of our web series Are You MN Enough?, the ongoing production of TV Takeover, live tapings of The Lowertown Line, and more— we’re well on our way, and hope you’ll continue to play with us.
Now if you’re wondering what this new Rewire brand is going to look like– you’re going to have to stay tuned in. Our talented graphic designer, Ben Malley, has already drafted 4 different concepts for the new brand, and we’ve decided to reveal them one by one.
Starting Monday, October 28, we’ll be sharing one design each day– culminating on Thursday, October 31 with the final reveal. So be sure to play along on our Facebook page as we share!
