Rewire is public media with a twist. This new initiative from Twin Cities PBS (TPT) involves a series of smart and playful events, content, and online engagements that take TV outside the box—and into the digital era.
What does that mean, exactly? It means that we realize the media landscape is changing– rapidly. We realize we’re not the only storytellers in town anymore. We realize that you probably don’t hurry home to make sure you catch PBS Newshour exactly when it airs (if you have the time to watch it at all). So we’re taking the DNA of PBS and we’re bringing it to life in new ways– with smart, inventive events like our pop-up concert series Skyway Sessions. Or with new, more collaborative approaches to broadcast programming, like our 5 part live TV and event series TV Takeover, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and Knight Foundation. Or more playful content like our Are You MN Enough? web series, produced in partnership with PBS Digital Studios.
Whatever we do, it’s going to be infused with collaboration, play, authenticity, and good old-fashioned smarts.

Rewire was inspired, in part, by TPT’s collaboration with AIR as one of the 10 incubator stations for Localore. This producer-led national production, funded by CPB, laid new taproots to take public media “outside” to new corners of community and extend public media service to more citizens.
